Have you ever posted something, then reread it and thought, “Oh no, that isn’t what I meant to say.” It happens to me all the time.I am not the best at written communication, so writing posts and commenting on social media is difficult for me.
I would love to be able to share my rants and opinions in a convincing way, but writing is a struggle for me..I can spend a ton of time on it, and STILL what I write either falls flat or it gets misinterpreted. Do you feel like you’re a good communicator? Not me!
That’s why I like creating art instead. I found that when I’m painting, I can actually communicate easily - more accurately and boldly what’s inside of me. And I don’t feel like I have to censor myself, or be polite or worry about how it might be interpreted.
It doesn’t bother me that a lot of people aren’t going to “get” my art or like it. In fact, I like it when my art means something completely different, depending on who’s looking at it.
So, this painting is a good example of that. I feel like it’s loud, it’s crazy, it’s argumentative, it’s chaotic, it’s diverse, and it’s saying a bunch of discordant ideas all at the same time, and those ideas cross each other and try to be louder than another idea and that no line is winning over another one, they are just being themselves. Can you see those ideas and feelings in this painting? If not, what do you see? What do the lines and colors mean to you?
The name of this painting is Bold Discourse in honor of those conflicting ideas and crisscrossing opinions and reflecting a desire to have a deep conversation where people argue and disagree but enjoy bantering back and forth even when each person is trying to be louder than the other and make their marks on top of someone else’s - kind of like graffiti on top of graffiti.
Do you agree with my interpretation and name of this painting? If not, what stands out to you? What is the overall feeling of this painting, in your opinion? The beauty of abstract art is all the possible meanings and feelings it creates. It’s not a set form. You can see something different every time you look at it. It makes you think and reflect.
If you’d like to add a little contemplation like this to your life, I hope you’ll consider adding some original artwork to any room you spend a lot of time in. Art enriches your life and sparks your own creativity. Abstract art, like this one, adds vibrancy and richness and interest to your surroundings. How would that make you feel?
